Curriculum Vitae

Dear Friends,

For those of you who would like to know my medical background, here is a summary of my training and professional and medical accomplishments over my professional life.

I retired in 2002, and like most physicians, after having a wonderful experience practicing in Pensacola, Florida, at the Medical Center Clinic (a large multi-specialty clinic) for 30 years, I could not just walk away from medicine. After spending most of my professional life staying up on my broad field of Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgery, Head and Neck Surgery, and Facial Plastic, Reconstructive, and Cosmetic Surgery, I was interested in bringing my knowledge up to date on all fields of medicine. I was board certified in all of the above fields, having trained at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center, starting practice in 1975. I also was trained in aviation medicine as a flight surgeon in the USAF, as a physician for pilots.

Thanks to the internet and subscriptions to several medical journals that covered the entire field of medicine, I started reading in depth material on major diseases. Spending so much time reading about the amazing advances in medicine, I decided I should share my knowledge with friends and family.

Over 5 years ago, I got serious about this, hired a website manager, and began publishing my updates online at  www.themedicalnewsreport.com  There are no advertisements or pop-ups on these reports, and I receive no income for writing these reports.

I invited a wide variety of people to subscribe (free), and I sent them a new report each month. Over 500 names are presently on my confidential mailing list, but after the website became more popular, my website manager announced that I had over 20,000 hits on my website in just the first 3 months of this year. I also send my report to over 7,000 residents in Bradenton, Florida, where I currently live through the website Nextdoor.com

I have always been a teacher at heart lecturing a broad range of physicians at my clinic, teaching residents surgery at LSU Medical Center for 12 years, and having a TV cable network show on plastic surgery for 17 years. I also lectured on cancer and many other subjects over the years, and was the host for my medical center’s ABC-TV affiliate medical show for 3 years.

As a generalist at heart, I have enjoyed bringing my knowledge up to date and sharing it with my readers. As in most professional fields, continuing education to stay current is mandatory. Now, I spend as much as 20-30 hours a week researching the subjects I write on each month. With edits, an additional 30 plus hours per month is necessary to complete each report.

My report is geared for the layman, however, there are doctors and nurses who read some or all of my reports. Practicing healthcare professionals do not have the time to stay up with other fields of medicine, as was my case when I was in practice. Reporting the latest from several medical journals is the source of my information.

I also write about healthcare issues, and I try to keep my readers up on recent changes in the pharmaceutical industry, health insurance, the FDA, and governmental regulations, etc.

My reports are meant to inform, not treat people, and I constantly remind my readers to depend on their own personal physicians for decision making and never act on the information I provide without consultation with their doctors. With my report, I hope I am empowering readers to further their education especially about their own personal medical conditions to assist the doctor in their care.

Thank you for supporting THE MEDICAL NEWS REPORT.
